Goats Helping with Vegetation Control

The City of Torrance hired some new employees!  Water Operations used goats to help control vegetation at the Las Canchas Tennis Facility on Crenshaw Blvd. and Rollings Hills Rd.  The goats were there for about two weeks in early July, 2009, and had a goat-herder on site at all times.  Other cities have used goats as an inexpensive way to control vegetation.  The sure-footed goats are especially usefull on hillsides where employee safety would be a concern.

The goats pictured below were hard at work clearing vegetation from the hillside.  As you can see from the first picture below, the goats made quite a difference!

During the goats' two-week employment with the City, a baby goat joined the crew.  Mother and baby are doing fine.
